Nowadays retailers vie for shopper’s attention, bedecking their premises from top to toe in fairy lights, with vast windows revealing theatrical scenes, created to inspire, awe, and attract headlines. The big reveal of those magical windows not only showcases each designer’s hard work and creative ability, but also heralds the start of the festive season.

Founded in 1707 in the heart of St. James’s, one of the most fashionable areas of London in the 1700s, Fortnum & Mason is one of the capitals most characteristic and historic shops and has been a committed custodian of British Christmas tradition for over three centuries. For Christmas 2019, Cats inspired by Edward Bawden took centre stage in the store’s eight legendary windows facing directly onto Piccadilly.  Along Duke Street meanwhile, the windows were used as an opportunity to further revel the “Packed Full of Christmas” theme. 

George and the visual team’s creative objective was to produce an array of engaging displays to further support the narrative that ‘lifting the lid’ on a Fortnum’s hamper is one of the finest ways to celebrate the festive season, showcasing how the perennially popular basket and department store presents everything essential for the big day.

Each window was designed and styled to include a statement wicker hamper pouring its contents into an abundant festive scenario.  From small, accessibly priced gift boxes filled with favourites like truffles and champagne, to an extravagant tablescape overloaded with savoury trats, nibbles, puddings and much more. After all, it wouldn’t be a foodie’s festive season without the fantastic food!

Other windows were decked out with lavish styling including Christmas decorations, gold furnishings, tasteful homeware, and gifting inspiration by the plenty.  Advent calendars, crackers, games, the abundance, and richness of the brand was fully delivered by George and the visual team in this charismatic display.
