Harvest derives from the Old English word ‘Haerfest’ meaning Autumn. The Harvest Festival is a celebration of the crops, fruit and vegetables grown on the land and its origins go back thousands of years to Pagan times. The festival gives thanks for a successful crop yield over the year as well as the positive things in people's lives, such as family and friendships.

The main message for Fortnum’s 2021 harvest scheme throughout the company was “Get Together”. George was briefed with transforming the first-floor front matt into a seasonal tablescape, focusing on food presentation. Autumn is of course the perfect time to plan a truly delicious get together with family and friends.

Sticking with a classic autumnal colour scheme (oranges, rusts and chocolate browns), George incorporated natural textures, styling the space with corresponding products such as platters, bowls, plates and jugs chosen for their autumnal aesthetic. The previous picnic ceiling treatment was updated with wheat bunches, adding some rustic rural retail theatre to the area. The harvest scheme was in full swing throughout the store, George and the visual team reused old props spraying them in metallic shades before creating structures to adorn the first-floor fixtures.

The former Duke Street window picnic scheme was recycled for reuse in the harvest campaign, with some minor alterations required for it fit the season, which increased sustainability and proved cost efficient.  The sets were repainting in rich colours, and the dressings reconsidered to feature an array of autumnal accessories and decorative nods to Halloween in conjunction with Fortnum’s collection of Harvest-ready preserves, marmalades, condiments, and honeys.
