After more than three centuries of selling tea, Fortnum & Mason boast expertise as retailer that stocks an exceptionally large range, but what is tea without a biscuit? Tea is brewed with dunkers in mind after all.  In 2021, Fortnum’s added to their infamous ‘Lossus’ collection, with the Gingerlossus!  This addition to the biscuit range is so extraordinarily enormous it is near-impossible not to command attention, George (packing on a few extra pounds thanks to the delight) was tasked with creating a corner display that would showcase the newest member of the Lossus dynasty.

Infused with ginger, an important product for the brand historically, the packaging featured an over large ginger plant and a tiger prowling within. The large cat is indigenous to where ginger grows, and acted as an allusion to the heat we know and love ginger for.

George used the design of the tin as the source of his inspiration and artwork featured in the window, painting the surroundings in orange, another nod towards the fiery ingredient, which also worked well with the unexpected blue of the tiger and the product packing itself.

Elements of the packaging were reworked for both the corner window and later the doorway entrance for Duke Street, such as redrawing the tiger and replacing its strips with gold, to add an element of indulgent luxury. The corner window, with its unique perspective on the world, proudly notified other ginger biscuits that the king of the jungle had arrived!

The corner window at Fortnum & Mason is special, it acts as a conduit to the main window runs along both streets, but can also stand-alone, used to portray an entirely separate visual message, perhaps to highlight a solemn public occasion or, in contrast, a momentous celebration.
