We have discussed the key visual merchandising technique known as a “Vitality Area” before, but just to recap, it is used across IKEA as a visual promotional space for customers to engage with. George’s role was to the design these spaces to inspire customers, establish trends and increase visibility of a chosen product.
One of the many products that George was briefed with highlighting in the Home Organisation department’s Vitality Area was the SKÅDIS - a functional pegboard, allowing for the storing and displaying of almost anything within a home or office.
After creating visuals, George worked with the in-store carpenters to install a temporary structure that would demonstrate how customers could repurpose wall space using SKÅDIS, for both practicability and a decor purposes. A monochrome colour pallet was used with touches of pink, to stay in tune with prevailing interior trends of the time. George selected products he felt were cohesive to dress the area with, and textures with were incorporated to cover the display fixtures.
