Throughout its history, Fortnum & Mason has been synonymous with exquisite food, exceptional service, unforgettable experiences, and gifts that bring joy and love. Cocoa has been a staple part of the Fortnum’s produce for over 160 years, with the shop recognised as one of the original purveyors of drinking chocolate in the 1860s.

Fast forward to today and Fortnum’s is still an innovator and authority in both delicious and extraordinary confectionery, in 2018 Fortnum’s was the first to bring Ruby Chocolate to the UK and is home to more than 500 varieties of loose chocolate, taking every form imaginable: truffles, caramels, chocolate bark, dragees, marzipan, pralines and ganache.

In 2019 Fortnum’s delectable confectionery department underwent a £1.4 million makeover.

To launch the new confectionery department, George and the imaginative visual team were challenged to create an extravaganza of temptation along the Duke Street window run.  The designs, of course, would need to celebrate the artisan and origin of the world’s favourite treat, but ultimately had to tempt consumers into the store to discover more wonder and deliciousness!

After mood boards and brainstorming, George turned the concepts into visuals using computer aided design, which were later sent to the prop makers.

Visual merchandising and store design go hand in hand when influencing consumer behaviour. Visual draughts need to be planned meticulously, setting out a precise vision of the customer’s needs.

George can propose layouts though analysing sale reports, create bespoke themes based on engagement and produce memorable visual points of interest, which achieve the ultimate aim of increasing customer engagement and driving more sales.

George can imagine exclusive retail brand atmospheres from the initial concept stage right through to 3D visuals, before bringing his vision to life in the store.

Consumer demands are forever changing, and the retail industry must evolve accordingly by providing unique and relatable shopping environments designed with passion. If you need a fresh approach to your brand’s visual strategy to enhance your customer’s experience, then get in touch.

Bespoke installations or multi-store design, every window display is unique and imagined to inspire potential customers. Windows act as a gateway to the customer’s journey in the store, setting the scene for what is to come by dazzling the senses.

George has been creating memorable, innovative and engaging window displays for premier retailers for over a decade, capturing the intense experience that show-stopping window displays and distinctive visual merchandising schemes should induce in the customers.

The resulting window displays were brimming with all thing’s chocolate creamed, caked and cocoa coated. Oversized props dripping with velvety chocolate, to showcase Fortnum’s unique handmade confectionery delights.

The designs focused on Fortnum’s unique and inventive chocolate flavours, such as Dusted Royal Blend Tea, and Knickerbocker Glory.  At the more questionable end of the unique flavour spectrum was the Heinz Baked Bean truffle, a nod to the 150-year association between Fortnum’s and Heinz. The outcome were displays that would put Willy Wonka’s sugar frenzy to shame.
