The concept of the “Vitality Area”, a visual merchandising technique used throughout IKEA’s retail locations, has already been explained, but lighting is often overlooked.  Using the appropriate lighting is essential to create the right atmosphere and ambience in your home. It's what makes those late-night dinners for two perfectly romantic, and Friday’s family fun a cosy and warm event. 

With the right lamps, and the correct placement, you can create the perfect feeling for every moment.  George was asked to create a Vitality Area for the light department, which would need to be readily adaptable, transforming to suit the needs of the department through the seasons whilst remaining readily customisable during key launches, events and product promotional strategies. 

George’s 3D visuals were turned into reality with the help of the in-house carpenters, who built a flexible activity area. The designs assembly itself incorporated IKEA’s illuminated LED-strips within the natural wood framing, ensuring stability whilst maintaining a modern Scandinavian approach. On brief, the design could be internally styled and adapted to highlight different home lighting solutions.

As Visual and Activity designer for Ikea, George’s primary reasonability was to create exciting touch points within departments using colour, texture, and furnishings to create engaging displays that inspire customers to take a better life home with them.
