Fortnum’s has been the home of the Hamper for more than 300 years, the historical brand is famously known as the purveyor of these perfect parcels of joy.  But what is joy?  Fundamentally it is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.

One of the main challenges of working with the history and heritage associated with a brand like Fortnum and Mason is how to marry that tradition whilst conveying a contemporary look. Given a brief to convey the idea of joy in the Duke Street window run, George worked hand-in-hand with Fortnum’s Head of Creative to work up various storyboards and concepts, before settling on the concept of ‘bursting with joy’.

Fortnum’s hampers convey excitement and joy when gifted, and so the concept of series of exploding displays was dreamt up. Exploding hampers, exploding champagne bottles, exploding gift boxes, even exploding windows on the odd occasion!

This exploding theme was applied to eight iconic Fortnum’s products that have become synonymous with over the centuries with the brand, and George set about having them burst with colour, life and joy!

George briefed the prop makers to recreate his exploding designs in scaled-up displays in the store’s iconic ‘Eau De Nil’ colour scheme. The eruptions themselves were created from materials such as foam and felt, delicately designed and placed on a wire structure. Overall the theme was crafty, fun and definitely bursting with joy as the brief required.
